Q & A
Running is one of the most practiced sports because of its beneficial impact on health, serving as an effective primary and secondary preventive strategy for many chronic medical conditions. Low back pain is a heterogeneous, complex, and self-limiting condition causing disability to patients across the lifespan. As we know, low back pain has a high prevalence in the general population. However, the literature is lacking comparatively in identifying the prevalence of low back pain in the long-distance runner. Research does suggest there are several factors that may contribute to low back pain in this population. This course will highlight common causes of low back pain specifically in long-distance runners, and will include red flags/contraindications for treatment, common signs/symptoms and presentation of a patient with this condition, a running mechanics assessment, and appropriate interventions.
